Attorney Ravindar Arora is a criminal defense and immigration lawyer at MayesTelles PLLC. He is passionate about fighting on behalf of the wrongly accused, the less fortunate, and those who need experienced representation when facing allegations levied by the government.
Born in Tucson, AZ to two college professors who switched between different universities, Ravindar was raised in various parts of the country before coming back to Arizona and settling in Phoenix. Ravindar has held a wide variety of jobs, including teaching, home renovation, bar backing, being a ranch hand, and working for a software startup in Shanghai, China, among others. His exposure to different cultures, communities, and professions taught him the value of hard work and instilled in him a passion for helping people from all walks of life.
Ravindar’s interest in the law emerged from his love of debate and his years on the speech and debate team in high school. He earned his B.S. in Psychology with a Minor in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona, and his law degree from Arizona State University.
Prior to joining MayesTelles, Ravindar worked for an immigration law firm, and as a public defender and a Judge with the Tonto Apache Tribe in Payson. He credits his immigration and deportation defense practice as a valuable learning experience in patience, perseverance, and flexibility – attributes critical to working in legal arenas where laws constantly evolve, and clients’ problems require creative solutions.
Over his years in practice, Ravindar has won every form of immigration relief available, and has secured great victories for criminal clients in serious misdemeanor and felony cases. He has won trials for cancellation of removal, asylum, withholding, protection under the convention against torture, and others. He has had clients’ cases terminated and dismissed, secured numerous releases from immigration custody, and has helped hundreds of people earn their legal status in the U.S.
As a defense attorney, Ravindar takes pride in his tenacious approach to defending the freedoms and futures of his clients. He prioritizes direct contact, and takes the time to educate clients on the aspects of their cases. Knowing that being a defense attorney requires not only legal skill and experience, but also the ability to support clients facing some of the most difficult experiences in their lives, Ravindar is accommodating and understanding of clients’ needs to every degree possible.
Ravindar is actively involved in the local community. He serves as a volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul’s Legal Clinic, and has been a featured speaker for the group’s public events, including town halls with the Phoenix Police Chief, Jeri Williams. He has also represented mental health clients Pro Bono in immigration courts, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He is currently engaged and has one adopted son, whose two older siblings he helped raise as a foster parent until they became adults.
